PILGRIMAGE: JOURNEYS IN THE KALI YUGA
My book, tentatively titled PILGRIMAGE: JOURNEYS IN THE KALI YUGA, will be published by Inner Traditions in the fall of 2017. Below is a short summary of the book.
PILGRIMAGE: JOURNEYS IN THE KALI YUGA is Aki Cederberg's personal odyssey into the ancient Hindu tradition of esoteric knowledge. Spanning a decade of seeking, it is a voyage between worlds, a European's journey into mythic India, and reflects on the confluence of East and West, of ancient and modern, in our time of strife referred to in the Hindu texts as the Kali Yuga. Ultimately, it is a story of a search for spiritual homeland.
Seeking to find authentic, unbroken magical tradition, Cederberg travels into the mythic realms of India and Nepal. After many adventures across these ancient lands, he stumblingly arrives at the source of the Hindu traditions of magic and yoga as he encounters the mystic, wild holy men and their age-old esoteric order – the Naga babas. The author immerses himself in the teachings of the tradition, receives an initiation, and partakes in the Kumbh Mela, the largest spiritual gathering on earth. He starts to glimpse resemblances and analogies between the teachings of the Indian tradition and the Western traditions of magic, alchemy and its various pagan pantheons. Eventually returning to his native soil of Europe and traveling to holy places where old pagan divinities still linger in the shadows of the modern world, Cederberg dreams of forgotten gods, and contemplates, in light of an ancient esoteric tradition, how they might be awakened yet again. Reality shows itself to be stranger than fiction, as the mythic and personal narratives intertwine, and soon Cederberg discovers that he has himself become part of the great river of story, which is about the quest of the hero – and at heart, the story of the true human being.
